On Earth Day, April 22nd, OHP held an event where Oahu's gubernatorial candidates came out and answered questions about their plans to improve environmental health here in Hawaii. It was a Q&A discussion where attendees successfully voiced their concerns and talked to these candidates face to face. A diverse mix of UH students, faculty, and staff attended this event. We hoped to reinvigorate young minds to think about the environment, inspire participation in local government, and encourage youth to vote.✊🏽
On June 28th, OHP members had the opportunity to meet with Pacific Allies cadets Alana Kickhoefer and Natalie Rodriguez from the United States Coast Guard Academy, and international relations major Simon Weiss from Tufts University. The group talked about OHP, Pacific Allies, water security, local/native Hawaiian perspective on military presence, and tensions between the parties. OHP was able to show the students around the island and visit the Bishop Museum where they learned about Hawaiian History! Soon, Alana, Natalie, and Simon will be off to the Marshall Islands.🌿

On Saturday, July 16th from 7:00am-10:00am, OHP hosted a scavenger hunt themed hike at Manoa Falls! Each person and/or team was given a bingo card of items they found throughout the hike. We learned more about Oahu's flora and fauna together while playing a fun game! Winners received a prize at the end👀🎉 This event was open to everyone! We hope we encouraged our participants to go out and appreciate nature more.
